As much as I do love them, I am so pleased to see them over.

In Lincoln, my main focus has been Lincoln West, a division that covers the city ward we currently have one councillor in - so we hope to improve on the results previous and wipe the board with Labour. In the Euros - I hope we get Bill Newton Dunn back in for the East Mids region - having Lincolnshire Lib Dems having more County Council candidates than Labour, we hope that will help the quest for the region.
However, the rise of the Lincolnshire Independents (a loose coalition of Independent candidates from all point of the political spectrum) is a big unknown of the Lincolnshire establishment - especially in Douglas 'Moat Cleaned' Hogg of Sleaford and North Hykeham!

Going to be an interesting week!

Good luck to all those Lib Dems standing around the country!!

R

Football Football

As a Liverpool fan, I found last night a bit difficult. I missed the Liverpool goal due to being outside the Pub and then had to endure all 3 of Chelsea's. First, the crash landing at Heathrow some months ago, the the landing in the Hudson River. This has been followed by a mid-air collison by to light aircraft from the RAF over Wales and now the crash in Buffalo, NY and the landing at London City airport yesterday.

All this is enough to make me not want to fly again!

Drinking on the trains

Having recently been unlucky enough to catch the same train as most of the away fans coming to watch Lincoln City's match with Chester, I noticed how many of the visiting supporters (and some home supporters coming from nearby Newark) were drink alcohol on the train. I personally have no problem with it as long as it does not lead to trouble on the train or at the ground, but I am surprised that drinking alcohol on public transport is still allowed, especially after the move of Boris Johnson banning it on the London Underground and bus networks, and many town centres around the county being alcohol free zones.
Many of those drinking looked to be young lads, some of whom looked to me to be underage. The conductors have no power to ask them to stop drinking unless they are upset other passengers, so if they see someone who could be underage, there is no power to check or ask them to stop - which personally I think is ridiculous!
Another amusing thing is one group of the Chester supporters that were on the train from Derby as well as the one to Lincoln could not stop going to the loo on the total of 1 hour 30 mins journey - I have never seen so many people use the loo so often!!!

Festive Greetings

Just a quick post to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year x

The Wrong Kind of Promotion

On my way back from Derby this weekend, I saw an advertisment board from the train window which read:

"Murder, Incest and Cross Dressing"

Not something you would normally see on a board. Now this is where the confusion began. The line was very poor and it was difficult to hear the gentleman on the other end of the line. The first time he spoke I thought he was askin to speak to Darren Lane, the checkout manager. Eventually I got what he was asking after asking him to repeat what said a couple of times. He was asking Morrisons for a taxi to pick him up from Water Lane so he could come and do his shopping. I had to explain that as a supermarket we don't have a taxi service and suggested he ring one of the city taxi firms to order one, but he proceeded to rant about how we at Morrisons should provide transport to shuttle shoppers to and from the store. I will add here that he was a youngish man - I would understand it more if he was older - but hey thats the general public for you

The Day The World Would End

Its amazing to think how many people thought there was a chance the world would end by the Big Bang experiment in Switzerland. But we all survived the terrible fate of being sucked into a black hole, unless whats on the other side of one is exactly the same as we have now.

This whole event of the possibility of the world ending reminded me of the Millenium Bug fever that swept the world in 1999. Its funny that we all get so paranoid about own own existance everytime we venture into something new!

But despite all the hype that today received, there are those of you who know the real truth - that it will end on 21st December 2012. According to the theory, that date is when the ancient calendars, like the Myan calendar, are not longer recorded. Did they know something we dont? But at least we would have got the London Olympics out the way - but Christmas don't look to promising. So to all my friends out ther - don't expect a present or card that year lol!

R x

July - Is it that time??

Hello folks - I'm back!!!

I'm still around - unfortunate for some I know - but that's their worry!!

Loads has happened since I last posted - elections - open warfare - romance and similar stuff but nothing worth troubling you fantastic people with.

I received an application pack on Saturday for the Weakest Lin. I had felt one before (Iwas near Dudley for the one that happened there in 2002) but this one was more powerful by far. Both my parnets had woken up and most of our street seemed to head out to find out what was going on.

I headed downstairs to see if there was any information on the News - Sky had reports coming in from about 1.05am - but BBC News 24 didn't show any news of it until nearly 1.30. After finding out the earthquake had its epicentre near Market Rasen - I was shocked as tits only about 20 miles from me. I also receieved a text from a friend who lived near Market Rasen saying how strong it was.

It is worrying to think that a little over 15 miles from me was the epicentre of the strongest earthquake to hit the UK in over 20years.

I have been listening to the local radio this morning and a geological expert was being interviewed and he said that a similar strength of earthquake with its epicentre roughly in the same place happened back in 1185. This earthquake brought down most of Lincoln Cathedral!

On a lighter note, two of my friends were celebrate their third anniversary together last night, they were too busy to notice the earthquake as they were making their own - information I really didn't need to know guys lol!

The start of something new

So here we are in 2008! A Happy but belated New Year to you all!

Well what an exciting year this is like to be for me! Chair of Lincoln Lib Dems, Press Officer for the Lincs Lib Dems, Lincs Rep on the East Midlands Executive and a member of DELGA's Executive also means a whole lot of pressure! But I am certainly up for the challenge and I am ready to fight anyone who tries to put a downer on it!

Anyway - I have made a couple of New Year's Resolutons this year.
1 - to learn to drive
2 - to find a new job
3 - to save some money
4 - to get into shape
5 - to have fun

I decide they should all be positive ones rather than ones where you stop or give up something - so hopefully by the end of 2008 - those will have been achieved! Something I would like but is not on my resolutions is to find myself a boyfriend - but as this can take time and is unpredictable - it is not on my list - it's a wishes and dream more than anything - and with me and my ex falling out and not talking - I could use the cheering up lol!

Anyways - best of luck for your New Year - and just remember I am having fun no matter what people say or do!

The Christmas - New Year bore!

Yep we survived another Christmas! Though it wasn't as easy as others.

First I have been ill over Christmas with a stomach bug and a bad cold - topped together made for a downer on the Christmas festivities! Least I was up and about on the big day unlike on Christmas Eve which I spent in bed.

Second the bolier packed up sometime on Christmas Eve - so we have been with heating and hot water since then! Thank god for electricity to heat up water and keep us a little bit warmer! Hopefully that is being sorted as I write this post!

So now we are going quickly to another New Year - hope this one proves more succesful and exciting as the last - need something to keep me on my toes!!!

If I don't post again before New Year - have a great night seeing in 2008 - and hope it brings you something even better than this year- well to most of you! LOL!

Baby Bells, Engagement Rings and a serving of Leadership

So the D-Day is nearly here - no not Christmas - the announcement of the new Lib Dem leader. It's been a fairly quiet campaign compared to our last leadership election - but it's nearly over - hurrah - and then back on to business. I don't really mind which gets the job out of Huhne and Clegg - eithe rof them will make a positive impact on the way the Lib Dem's will head into the next set of local and General elections. I know who I personally would like to get the top job - though it is purely based on who i know more about - and being were they are and have been means I personally feel more of a connection.

Anyway moving on to other bits and pieces - I am so excited about the Xmas Dr Who episode - each time I see a new trailer - the excitement picks up! It looks like it might be the best Dr Who episode of the new run!
Also, not so much of a scrooge about Christmas now as I was - suppose after finding out your ex is getting hitched - Christmas was really on my thoughts. So congratulations to Tom and Jamie on their engagement - hope you are both very happy together!

On a similar note - congratulations to Kate and Jamie - who saw their daughter Faith Virginia Mytra Taylor-Jacobs born on the 12th December at 12.55am weighing 9lbs 1oz - nice to see them so happy together.

So after all this good news and love - I am left thinking were is my share. Hopefully it is on its way - could do with a better 2008.

Hope your Christmas planning is not too stressful x

Floaty Light

Just want to say I'm feeling floatly light after the magic of last night - ahhhh!!!

Facebook and the Lib Dem Leadership Contenders

I have just been on Facebook and one of my friends had sent me an invitation for a name analyzer . After nearly two months surrounded by Christmas stuff at work I'm sick of it - and to top it - I have the Christmas Quiz to host on Sunday evening! Already Morrisons are cutting the prices of the Christmas Stock and there is 3 weeks to go!!! Lets get back to the real meaning of Christmas shall we - being with friends relatives and loved ones - spending time together - and also taking care of those on their own.

Well rant over - the news on the grapevine is that I am the new Chair of the Lincoln Liberal Democrats - would you believe it! Well the vote was tied been me and my opponent - so it went to the toss of a coin! Dramatic! So I'm working of my Jan08 plan of attack which is why I'm up so late!

Also - Shane is all grown up - he turned 18 on Sunday - had a great night out with work to celebrate - its great to see a young man who is not bitter or twisted - he is just loving life!

One last thing while I remember - Rhoda might be visiting Lincoln again next year - here is to the party!

oh - and to anyone wishing to know who I am supporting in the Lib Dem leadership campaign (see a comment on my last post) - that is between me and my ballot paper!! Nosey so and so!!!

I'll leave you with a quote from one of Lincoln's most famous residents, Babs who siad to me "A community is a collection of people, but if one person was missing, that community would not be the same". Shows us all that each and everyone of us is important!

Ross

Back Online

Hello again!

So I finally get to write a new post - at last I have my new computer and broadband back online - hurrah to that! I so wish I have been off in a dream world -but alas I have not.

I have been working way to much recently - but least it paid for this new computer!

Not much news as of yet - apart from I have recently been elected to the DELGA Exec (for anyone who doesn't know its the Lib Dem Gay & Lesbian Association), and on to the Lincolnshire Lib Dem Federation as their press officer. Also I have been re-elected to the East Mids Lib Dem Exec as a Lincs Rep.

The Lincoln team have their AGM and elections in a couple of weeks - so I'll let you know how that goes.

See ya all soon - maybe it will be soner than you think!

Ross

September Dreams

Hey Guys - How are you all?

Sorry not posted for a while - been really busy and been on holiday too.

Went to Yarmouth for my holiday at the beginning of September. It was nice to get away for a bit after a stressful summer. Weather was warm and sunny so had the chance to top up my tan a bit. Also met a singer called Harvey. He was really sweet - shame we couldn't get to know each other better.

After that, it was my graduation. Think I was more nervous on that day than I was waiting for my results. The Cathedral posed as a magificent backdrop for the event. It is a day that will stay with me for the rest of my life. As will the grad ball the night after. It was awesome. Had loads of fun accompanying the House of Skirt to the event. We all had a great time and looking forward to seeing the photos!!

Then it was time to head for Brighton and to the Lib Dem Party Conference. The Lincoln delegation arrived in a sun kissed Brighton late on Saturday and moved into the modern appartment that was home for the week. The conference provided us with the opportunity to play Lib Dem Bingo - scaring half the MPs in the process! As it was my first conference it took some getting use to - but I soon got the hang of picking the events with the free food and drink lol.
We also had time for some fun while in London-by-the-Sea - notably when on the pier in the gales that hit Brighton over the last couple of days and a wave coming over the edge of the pier and soaking me! Also made some get new friends and had a laugh with some familiar faces.

Back to this week and I am recovering from a night at DollyMixtures with Tom. They set up a murder mystery night - which was a laugh - and we had to guess who had killed Princess Babserella. I took Tom along to cheer him up after losing his job on Saturday- so I'm off to help him find a new one now.
Oh, I'm likely to have my interview for supervisor today - I am a bit nervous - I'll let you know how it goes.

Speak soon x

Harry Potter and the Neo Nazis

Over the bank holiday weekend I caught the programme on BBC1 about Neo Nazis in WWII re-enactments. A lot of the men who dressed up in SS costumes, despite denying they had right wing views, actually did. One of them was even Jewish! It made me wonder what people actually saw in Adolf Hitler in today's world! This paticuler event even had David Irving, the infamous Holocaust denier there signing his books. I find it amazing how people can airbrush the terror and suffering from WWII history. For this to be even happening, let alone it being under the cover of an re-enactment make me sick and disappointed. I had relatives who died to save our country from the evil of the Nazis in WWII - and to have this happening on British soil is a very sad event.

After I finish reading the last Harry Potter novel and it got me thinking. The Death Eaters dressed in their black robes reminded me of the SS, Hitler's own Bodyguard of troops - very much like the Death Eaters are to Voldemort. Also the wanting of pure wizarding blood was a take on the Nazi view of pure Aryan blood. I had never realised the hidden message under the story before - but it could just be me - or has anyone else noticed it?

On a happier note - I am loving SKINS. I missed it on E4 - so getting my first chance to watch it. It is so realistic and makes what I think is an acturate portrayl of young people today - but I still love it. You really feel for the characters despite their rule breaking - and Maxxie - love you- so excellent!!!

One final thing - a warning - don't! The pigs know - they are very clever beings!

The Sunshine after the Rain!!! Review of Lincolnshire Pride 2007

Well Lincolnshire Pride 2007 is now over (big aahhh everyone) and its was a fantastic weekend for the gay community and for Lincoln as a whole!

The weekend was opened on a damp and dreary Saturday by the Mayor of Lincoln, Conversatvie Councillor Hilton Sprat who made the declaration "the council takes a proactive view on equality and diversity and that the equality agenda is right at the front of local politics" - This may come as a surprise to many of the councillors and activists in the local Conservative Party!!! The event kicked off the live music on the open air stage and with the market indoor in the main Engine Shed hall.

The event was timed to run alongside the Lincoln Waterfront festival happening along the river from Pride. In the evening, everyone gathered outside for the main firework display.

Sunday kicked off with better weather and more live music on the open air stage. The crowd then gathered for the Lincolnshire Pride 2007 Dog Show - and before you ask non of the Drag Queens were allowed to enter. The entertainment and music continued until the evening, when we moved indoors for the Lincolnshire Pride Awards 2007 - with Princess Babserella gaining the Special Recognition Awards, Yarborugh School, Lincoln awarded the Anti Homophobic Bullying Award and V-Bar, Skegness and Burlesque Show bar awarded for the best gay-friendly and gay bars respectively. This was then followed by Cabaret entertainment from the V-Bar crew and Princess Babserella, who did a fantastic and fitting finale to the cabaret with Miss Titty Bon-Bon - who worked together on the Lincoln scene for the last 4years.

This weekend was a great promotion and celebration of the diversity in Lincoln and how the different communities can come together and celebrate as one. For those who wish to persecute the gay community and other communities, we will not stand by and let this be done- Britain is one great nation and will continue to be be celebrating the diveristy within with one great and noble community.

The Time of our Lives - with IMPORTANT NEWS UPDATE

Hurrah- this weekend is Lincolnshire Pride - its the second year it has been held and this year its being held at the Engine Shed at the University of Lincoln!
It promises to be a fantastic weekend of community cohension and fun for all - despite the dodgy wheater forecast (much unlike last year's of scorching temperature - and the huge thunderstorm that put pay to 2hours of entertainment!)!

Also - the tory blog of hate has finally been taken offline - hurrah again!!

Will learn how to upload pic and things so I can put the pride pics up after!

Bye

Floods and Bureaucracy

Hey all!!

Lots to update you on!!

Firstly the recent floods (or many near floods in Lincoln). Had a walk around the city on Tuesday with many areas waterlogged and also got evacuated from the University library due to the impending high tide and risk from flooding.

Second - am still waiting on my uni results - due to the postal strike there is on post on the day they were due to arrive!! so now at least one more day of waiting and another sleepless night.

Last - I have a Boyfriend. Me and Tom got together last Thursday. He is a sweet guy. He's 20 and currently a trainee hairdresser. I am really happy!!

Anyway more updates soon all

Flying the Flag - For Us

So for those of you who didn't know - 17th May was IDAHO - or the International Day of Homophobia. Its funny seeing on this day the homophobic comments on a website previously mentioned were still coming out (no pun intended!) and still continues!

Also - it is not long until Lincolnshire Pride now - its just 60 days away until Lincoln welcomes the gay community from around the country for the big celebration of gay life! Hopefully more of the City Councillors will be there to support the event than last year. I am told is to be opened by the City Mayor Hilton Spratt (but I think that is still to be confirmed).

On different issues - I think I have a major crush - his name is Shane and he is a work colleague of mine. Him and me seem to have hit it off as friends and we are meeting for coffee sometime this week!! He is so sweet and attractive and I know thats why I fancy him - but friends is better than pushing him away.

Work at St Peter and St Pauls is going well - have 2 exams to supervise tomorrow and 2 on Wednesday this week. Still seems strange being back at my former school as staff - can't get used to calling my former teachers by their first names!!

Updates on matters will follow when information is available!
